Airlines reschedule flights as NANS grounds Lagos airport

…as Sowore joins protest, assures students of support

Airlines operating at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport have rescheduled their flights due to Monday’s protest by the National Association of Nigerian Students.

It was learnt that the inability of travellers to gain access to the airport forced the airlines to reschedule their flights.

The students shut down the domestic terminal one also known as the General Aviation Terminal and Terminal Two operated by Bi-Courtney Aviation Service Limited of the Airport and the MMA, preventing passengers from entering the airport. Due to the development, some local and international flights were re-scheduled.

Thousands of students under the aegis of NANS stormed the MMA on Monday morning to stage a protest against the lingering strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

African Action Congress presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, also joined the students’ protest.

He assured the protesting students of support.

NANS is demanding the resolution of the ongoing strike action by ASUU by the Federal Government.

The ASUU strike began on February 14, 2022.

But the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has fixed a meeting for Tuesday with the leadership of the ASUU led by its President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, on finding lasting solution to the lingering strike.
