Akpabio Commissions Lagos Projects, Represents President Tinubu At Ceremony

Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday inaugurated key infrastructure projects in Lagos State, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during an official commissioning ceremony.

The projects include the Open-Mende-Ojota Link Bridge and the newly named Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex in Alausa, both described as part of ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and public service delivery in the state.

President Tinubu, who is currently in Lagos for a scheduled two-day working visit, is expected to commission several landmark projects executed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. However, Akpabio stood in on his behalf at Wednesday’s event.

In a video shared on X by Sanwo-Olu’s aide, Jubril Gawat, Akpabio was seen unveiling the projects alongside Governor Hope Uzodimma, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, and other dignitaries.

“On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I commission these projects,” Akpabio declared while cutting the ceremonial ribbon.

The commissioning is part of a broader rollout of projects highlighted earlier by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, who noted that the President would inaugurate “iconic, transformative and legacy projects” across the state.

Among the listed projects are the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge, the Lagos State Geographic Information Service building in Alausa, the Lagos State Multi-Agency Complex, the Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle, the Maracana Stadium, and the Lagos Food Logistics Hub in Abijo.

The developments have drawn attention not only for their scale but also for their potential impact on mobility, education, and public administration within the state.

To facilitate the commissioning activities, the Lagos State Government announced partial road closures across key areas.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the measures were necessary to ensure public safety and smooth execution of the events.

According to the advisory, the Opebi-Mende Link Bridge commissioning on Wednesday affected traffic flow in Opebi, Allen, Ikeja, and Ojota between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., with motorists urged to use alternative routes.

Additional commissioning events scheduled for Thursday, including the unveiling of the Tolu Schools Complex, are expected to impact traffic in the Olodi Apapa and Ajegunle areas within the same timeframe.

Residents and commuters have been advised to plan their movements accordingly to avoid disruptions.

The series of project inaugurations underscores the Lagos State Government’s ongoing infrastructure drive, as well as the Federal Government’s support for developmental initiatives aimed at improving urban living conditions and economic productivity.
