Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has denied saying that National Assembly members took 60 per cent of the contracts awarded by the Niger Delta Development Commission.
Akpabio’s denial was contained in a letter he sent to the House of Representatives and addressed to the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila.
The minister’s letter came shortly after the Speaker said the lawmakers would sue Akpabio for failing to prove that NDDC awarded contracts to them.
Speaker Gbajabiamila, who announced the receipt of Akpabio’s letter, said the minister claimed to have referred to old contracts awarded by the NDDC, which had not been paid for and some of which are part of the constituency projects of the lawmakers.
He, however, announced that Akpabio’s response would be referred to the Committee on Ethics and Privileges to determine the merits of the minister’s arguments.
