In a significant step toward improving healthcare access in Akwa Ibom State, Governor Umo Eno announced that by the close of 2024, residents across the state should expect the commissioning of seven additional healthcare centers.
This initiative is part of the administration’s larger commitment to strengthening primary healthcare and ensuring medical services are within reach for all communities.
The announcement was made at the inauguration of the ARISE Primary Health Care Center in Oboyo Ikot Ita, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, where residents celebrated the completion of a much-needed facility that reduces the need for long-distance travel to access essential healthcare services. Governor Eno highlighted the center as not only a fulfillment of his campaign promise but also as a symbol of the administration’s dedication to healthcare equity across the state.
“This is about ensuring our people have easy access to quality healthcare without having to leave their communities,” Governor Eno remarked.
He urged local residents to take ownership of the center and protect it, emphasizing that it stands as a community asset meant to serve generations to come.
Commissioner for Health, Professor Augustine Umoh, praised the governor’s strategic efforts to address healthcare infrastructure gaps in Akwa Ibom, stressing that the current administration has taken bold steps to transform the sector.
The ARISE Primary Healthcare Center in Nsit Ibom LGA now joins two other recently commissioned centers, with an ambitious target of a total of ten centers operational by December.
This healthcare expansion marks a vital milestone for Akwa Ibom State, setting a strong foundation for improved health outcomes and enhanced well-being for its residents.
The state government has also pledged continued support to ensure that each facility is adequately staffed and equipped to meet the needs of its communities.
