An Abuja High Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory on Thursday granted bail to the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, in the sum of ₦50 million with one surety.

The surety, according to the court, must be a person of reputable integrity, resident within Abuja, and must own landed property within the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is facing defamation charges filed by the Federal Government over her claim that there was a plot to assassinate her, allegedly disguised as a mob attack.

In a controversial broadcast aired months ago, the senator reportedly stated:

The case has stirred political and public interest, with critics and supporters closely watching as proceedings unfold.

Further hearings are expected in the coming weeks.
