Amaechi Calls For ADC Unity, Slams Tinubu Over Governance Issues

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has called on leaders of the African Democratic Congress to unite and present a viable candidate capable of challenging the current administration.

Amaechi made the remarks on Tuesday during the party’s national convention held in Abuja, where he emphasised the need for cohesion among opposition figures ahead of future elections.

He argued that political power would not be relinquished voluntarily by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging party stakeholders to take responsibility for building a credible alternative.

“ADC must decide on a viable candidate. President Tinubu will not give us power,” he said, stressing the importance of strategic unity within the opposition.

Amaechi also criticised the Federal Government over the persistent wave of insecurity across the country, noting that many Nigerians have been killed, displaced, or abducted in recent months.

He questioned what he described as contradictions in democratic practice, particularly regarding alleged restrictions on political gatherings, despite constitutional guarantees of freedom of association.

“How can a man who claimed to be a democrat be stopping democracy?” he asked, while urging party members to remain resolute in their pursuit of political change.

The former Rivers State governor further accused some government officials of prioritising personal gain over national interest, expressing concern over issues of accountability and governance.

Amaechi concluded by urging ADC members and other opposition groups to work collectively in confronting the challenges facing the country, insisting that only a united front could effectively contest the ruling administration.

His comments come amid growing political realignments and internal debates within opposition parties as they prepare for upcoming electoral contests.
