A leading figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed suggestions that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, possesses the technical ability to intercept the phone line of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Amaechi shared his view on Tuesday, the 17th of February, 2026, during an interview on Eagle, where he addressed the controversy surrounding recent claims attributed to El-Rufai. According to reports, the former governor allegedly acknowledged that he and others listened in on the NSA’s telephone conversations after tapping his line, a revelation that sparked backlash from several quarters, including the presidency.
Responding to the allegation, Amaechi cast doubt on the claim and shifted attention to the operations of the security apparatus.
“I doubt that El-Rufai said he hacked NSA Nuhu Ribadu’s phone. He doesn’t have the capacity to do so.
“It’s the NSA’s office that is listening to our calls. Ribadu is busy arresting everybody. He’s planning double elections.

“He’s planning for himself in 2031 and also for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
“All he’s doing is setting up parties to fight the ADC. He has his own fake ADC. Just go to court, he has so many ADC cases with small boys he has bought cars for.
“The man needs to rest. If he thinks there won’t be proper elections in 2027, he’s wasting his time. He should focus on his security job.”
The remarks further deepen the political tensions surrounding the unfolding dispute, as debates continue over the role of security agencies and the integrity of future elections.
