Former Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has said it is only fair for the South to complete an eight-year tenure in the presidency with President Bola Tinubu, in line with Nigeria’s long-standing rotational arrangement between the North and South.
Amosun made the assertion on Sunday at the Ake Palace Pavilion in Abeokuta while addressing members and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who gathered to mark his 68th birthday.
Reaffirming his membership of the APC, the former governor publicly declared his support for Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 general election, arguing that equity, fairness and national stability require strict adherence to zoning.
He said that although Tinubu is from the South-West, his leadership represents the entire country, stressing that respecting rotation is fundamental to Nigeria’s unity.
“The last president from the North, President Muhammadu Buhari, served for eight years. Now it is the turn of the South. President Tinubu is in the saddle, representing Nigeria as a whole, but also the South. For anyone who loves Nigeria, respecting that rotational agreement is a no-brainer,” Amosun said.
The former governor also expressed confidence that the economic reforms being implemented by the Tinubu administration would yield positive outcomes, urging Nigerians to remain patient as the Renewed Hope agenda unfolds.

Amosun, who described himself as a founding leader of the APC in Ogun State, maintained that his loyalty to the party remains unwavering. He said the history of the APC in the state cannot be told without acknowledging his role and that of other early leaders.
“In Ogun State, you cannot talk about the APC without talking about Amosun and those of us who built the party. After Chief Olusegun Osoba, I am next. You do not destroy what you build,” he said.
The event was attended by several APC stalwarts, including former Minister of Mines and Steel Development Lekan Adegbite; former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Sarafa Tunji Isola; former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Tunde Lemo; and former Senators Iyabo Anisulowo and Gbenga Obadara, among others.
