The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Joash Amupitan, has announced that staff responsible for operational deficiencies recorded in Kuje and Kabusa during the Federal Capital Territory elections will face investigation.
He stated that any workers found culpable would be sanctioned in line with established disciplinary procedures.
Amupitan also directed that transport providers responsible for delays in the movement of election logistics to the Kwali Area Council be blacklisted, stressing that logistical failures undermined the smooth conduct of the polls.
The directive was issued during a review of the FCT council elections at a meeting of Resident Electoral Commissioners held at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, four days after the conduct of the area council polls and by-elections in Rivers and Kano.

Beyond assessing the outcomes of the elections, the meeting served as a platform for feedback from electoral commissioners regarding operational challenges and preparations for the 2027 general election.
All resident electoral commissioners from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory attended the session.
Representatives of state independent electoral commissions also participated in the meeting, which focused on strengthening collaboration with INEC to improve the conduct of local government elections across the country.
The commission reiterated its commitment to accountability and operational reforms, noting that lessons from the recent polls would inform strategies aimed at enhancing electoral integrity and public confidence in future elections.
