Amusan Wins Nigeria’s First Gold At African Athletics Championships

World record holder Tobi Amusan clinched Nigeria’s first gold medal at the ongoing African Athletics Championships after producing a dominant display to win the women’s 100m hurdles final on Wednesday.

Amusan delivered another commanding performance in the final after earlier posting the fastest times in both the heats and semi-finals of the event.

Fellow Nigerian hurdler Adaobi Tabugbo also impressed by finishing third to secure her first individual medal for the country, while Ashley Miller denied Nigeria a clean sweep of the top two positions after claiming second place.

As of the time of filing this report, the official results and finishing times for the race had yet to be released due to several organisational challenges affecting the championship.

The competition has faced criticism from athletes and observers following issues including a malfunctioning timing system, lack of live results, incomplete race data without wind readings, and controversial disqualifications.
