The Anambra State Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA) on Thursday destroyed illicit drugs estimated at about ₦80 million following coordinated raids across several parts of the state, including Onitsha and surrounding communities.
The operation covered multiple locations such as Nsugbe in Anambra East Local Government Area, Umuchu in Aguata, Ojoto and Oba in Idemili South, Nkpor in Idemili North, Nkwelle Ezunaka in Oyi, and parts of the Onitsha commercial axis.
Speaking during the exercise, the Managing Director of SASA, Monday Nwokoye, said the raid was carried out based on credible intelligence and formed part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse and criminal activities in the state.
He explained that the destroyed substances were recovered from different hideouts across the affected areas and were deliberately eliminated to prevent them from returning into circulation.
Nwokoye reaffirmed the agency’s zero-tolerance stance on illicit drugs and touting, warning individuals involved in drug distribution or consumption to desist or face strict legal consequences.
“The raid underscores SASA’s commitment to dismantling illicit drug networks and curbing criminality across Anambra State,” he said.

“Illicit drugs estimated to be worth about ₦80 million were found and destroyed… The destruction was deliberate and final, ensuring the drugs would not re-enter circulation.”
He added that drug abuse remains a major driver of crime, including theft and violence, and poses a significant threat to public safety and community stability.
The SASA boss also urged residents to support law enforcement efforts by providing timely information on suspicious activities, stressing that community cooperation is essential to sustaining peace and security.
Commending the state government, Nwokoye praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his continued support for security operations across Anambra State.
He reiterated SASA’s commitment to intensifying its crackdown on drug abuse, touting, and related criminal activities, while encouraging residents to remain vigilant.
“If you see something, say something. Together, we can build a safer and healthier Anambra State,” he added.
The operation marks one of the latest in a series of enforcement actions aimed at reducing drug circulation and strengthening public safety across the state.
