In a strategic move aimed at bolstering security and intelligence operations, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has initiated a comprehensive overhaul of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
As part of the restructuring, CP Orutugu has directed the immediate reorganization of the CID, reinforcing its investigative capacity to effectively combat emerging crime trends.
A significant addition to the department is the establishment of a political desk unit, designed to monitor political developments and ensure security during campaigns and other high-risk political events.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the newly created political desk unit will focus on conducting threat assessments, implementing risk management strategies, and providing security guidance for politically sensitive activities.
The move follows a high-level meeting held on March 29 between CP Orutugu and sectional heads of the CID, where the growing need for a more proactive and intelligence-driven approach to crime detection and prevention was discussed.
“The Commissioner has ordered a comprehensive reorganization of the CID, aimed at strengthening intelligence gathering and enhancing security operations across the state,” the statement read in part.
Additionally, CP Orutugu has advocated for the acquisition of advanced forensic equipment to improve suspect profiling, crime scene investigations, and overall evidence analysis.

The integration of modern forensic technology, he emphasized, will align Anambra’s investigative capabilities with international standards.

He assured that continuous engagements with the CID leadership will help address operational challenges and enhance overall efficiency.
The Commissioner reiterated the Anambra State Police Command’s unwavering commitment to proactive policing, professional excellence, and ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
