The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has strongly condemned the assault of a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) allegedly carried out by a local vigilante officer in the state.
In a statement released in Awka on Tuesday, Dr. Soludo described the incident as “unacceptable, disturbing, and dehumanising,” stressing that there could be no justification for such treatment.
The Anambra State Police Command confirmed that it had identified and arrested a member of the Agunechemba Security Network accused of assaulting the corps member in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area.
Reacting to the viral video of the assault, the governor’s wife said the act was an affront to the values and hospitality for which Anambra people are known.
“Such demeaning approach to law and order does not in any manner reflect our celebrated identity as a hospitable and peaceful people,” she said.

“It does not represent the humane philosophy of Gov. Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, either. There are always rules of engagement in such situations, and they must prioritise dignity, civility, and respect.”
Dr. Soludo urged relevant authorities to ensure a thorough investigation into the matter and to take measures that will guarantee justice for the victim while preventing a recurrence.
“Anambra’s image is priceless. We must guard it jealously,” she added.
The statement has drawn wider attention to the conduct of vigilante groups in the state, with calls for stricter oversight to ensure the protection of human rights.
