British former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has spoken on camera for the first time about the car crash in Nigeria that killed two of his closest team members, describing them as his “brothers” and pledging to support their families.
The video was shared on social media on Thursday, January 29, 2026, a month after the accident.
Joshua, 36, appeared emotional as he reflected on the deaths of strength and conditioning coach Sina Ghami and personal trainer Latif “Latz” Ayodele, who died when the SUV they were travelling in collided with a stationary truck near Lagos on Monday, December 29, 2025. Joshua sustained minor injuries.
Speaking directly to the camera, he said:
“The last time I spoke to you guys was in Miami. We had so many plans to wrap up 2025, and we went back home, went to see our families, and everything just got flipped on its head. Not only did their parents, uncles, cousins, friends, and I lose two great men, we lost people we dearly care about. They were major players in all of our lives.”
He added:
“They’re my brothers, my friends first and foremost. Then we became business partners, we became hustlers, we became everything. I don’t think I’ve lost people like that, my left and my right.”
Joshua pledged to support the families of his fallen friends.
“I know what my duty is. I understand what they wanted to do for their families, and my goal is to continue to help them achieve their goals, even though they may not be here physically. It isn’t about legacy. It’s about doing what’s right, and I know I’ll do what’s right by them and their families.”

In the caption accompanying the video, Joshua wrote: “A short message from the heart. My brother’s keeper for life.”
He also thanked first responders, medical staff, and officials who assisted during and after the crash.
The accident came just weeks after Joshua’s sixth-round knockout victory over YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in Miami.
While future fights remain uncertain, his team confirmed he will be given time to grieve and recover.
Joshua’s statements show both his personal sorrow and a renewed sense of purpose as he navigates one of the most difficult moments of his career.
