APC Confirms Defection of Plateau Gov Mutfwang From PDP

The All Progressives Congress has confirmed that Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has left the Peoples Democratic Party for the ruling APC.

APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, announced the defection on Thursday, December 18, during the party’s 14th National Caucus meeting at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

Yilwatda, who is from Plateau State, said the move means the APC now controls every state in the North Central geopolitical zone.

“With the defection of Governor Mutfwang, the entire North-Central region is now governed by the APC,” the APC chairman said.

First Daily recalls that the Political Adviser to the Plateau State Governor, Mr. Istifanus Nwansat, had earlier revealed that Mutfwang was preparing to join the APC, blaming internal crises within the PDP as a key factor.

Nwansat said the governor’s decision followed a careful evaluation of political risks, describing the APC as the “safest option” given the turbulence in the PDP.

According to him, the defection would also align Plateau State with President Bola Tinubu’s political trajectory and policy direction.

“From our assessment and analysis of all available options, we have concluded that the decision with the least risk is to move into the APC,” he said.

“The governor believes it is reasonable and in the interest of the people to align with the President, especially given our recognition of the efforts of the Federal Government in putting things right.”

Mutfwang’s move comes weeks after a coalition of PDP members from all 17 local government areas of Plateau State held a rally in Jos, publicly calling on Mutfwang to cross over to the APC.
