Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State is set to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing ongoing crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a key reason for the move, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
The governor’s Political Adviser, Mr. Istifanus Nwansat, confirmed the development in an interview with journalists on Monday in Abuja.
Nwansat explained that Mutfwang decision to defect to the APC was based on a careful assessment of political options, describing the ruling party as the “safest decision with the least risk” in the current political climate.
He added that the defection would align the governor and his political team with President Bola Tinubu’s governance and political trajectory on the Plateau.

“The crisis in the PDP has made the platform an unrealistic podium for political actors to contest elections. After assessing all options, we concluded that the safest and most reasonable decision is to move into the APC,” Nwansat said.
He noted that although members of the Plateau State PDP respect the president’s efforts in stabilising the political landscape, aligning with the APC was necessary for effective leadership and governance at the state level.
