The Plateau State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to identify those he claims are persuading him to abandon the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the APC.
In a statement released on Tuesday, 28 October 2025, the party dismissed the governor’s remarks as ambiguous, insisting that he should be specific about the people involved if the claim was genuine.
The APC described the allegation as a deliberate attempt to create confusion within the state’s political space.
Party officials stated that no invitation had been extended to Governor Mutfwang to defect and that the APC had no arrangement to receive him or any of his loyalists.
The leadership maintained that such rumours were distractions from governance and an unnecessary attempt to link the APC to imaginary political moves.
The party’s position followed a stakeholders’ session held in Jos on Friday, 17 October 2025, where members discussed the growing speculation about likely defections ahead of the 2027 elections.
The meeting, attended by senior state and national leaders, reaffirmed that the APC would only admit new members through transparent processes and not through political convenience.
Reliable party sources said the leadership reached the decision unanimously after noting that constant rumours of defection could undermine its structure and public confidence.
They resolved to focus on internal cohesion and strengthen the party base across all local government areas in preparation for future elections.
Reacting to the statement, the governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, described the allegations as baseless.
He said the governor had not held any talks with APC representatives, adding that Mutfwang remained fully committed to the PDP and to delivering good governance to the people of Plateau State.

Bere maintained that the governor’s political choices are guided by his conscience and his responsibility to the people, not by external influence or partisan pressure.
The PDP in Plateau also dismissed the APC’s call as unnecessary, insisting that Governor Mutfwang has never considered defecting and remains loyal to the party that produced him.
Observers believe the renewed exchanges between both parties highlight the intensifying political rivalry in Plateau ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Analysts say the state’s growing political tension mirrors broader realignments taking shape across the North-Central zone as parties position themselves early for the polls.
