….tension grips party members as Keyamo, others insist Buni must go
A detachment of policemen on Monday took over the National Headquarters of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.
But the development created panic and tension among party members around the Muhammadu Buhari National Secretariat of the APC.
FirstNews gathered that a security report obtained by the police high command in the FCT concerning the current situation at the APC National Secretariat resulted in the deployment of the Force’s operatives around the building.
The police team made up of about 25 armed personnel were said to have taken strategic positions around Blantyre Street, Wuse 2 location of the APC secretariat, early Monday morning.
A terse notice by the party said that the National Secretary of the APC Caretaker Committee, John Akpanudoedehe, had been mandated to explain to journalists the reason behind the beefing up of security around the party secretariat.
According to the ‘NOTICE,’ “The National Secretary will brief the media on increased security presence at the Party’s National Secretariat. He is on his way to the Secretariat.”
The competence of the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, to continue to lead the party had been called to question since the Supreme Court’s 4:3 split judgment affirmed Mr Rotimi Akeredolu as Ondo State governor.
APC chiefs such as the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, have continued to insist that Buni and any other party official on the caretaker committee still holding executive positions in government should be replaced
Keyamo has been arguing that the apex court’s judgment queried Buni’s legality to lead the party, nominate candidates for elections and conduct the recent APC congresses.
