APC Fixes NEC Meeting July 24 to Pick New Chairman

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has set July 24, 2025, as the date for its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to formally nominate a new national chairman following the resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje.

The decision was taken during an emergency session of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) on Monday, June 30, at its headquarters in Abuja.

Ganduje stepped down from his position as APC national chairman last Friday.

His resignation was later confirmed by the party’s national publicity secretary, Felix Morka, who said the move was to allow Ganduje attend to “urgent and important” personal matters.

In the interim, Ganduje’s deputy from the North, Ali Bukar Dalori, has taken over in an acting capacity.

Speaking to journalists after the NWC meeting, Festus Fuanter, deputy national secretary of the APC, said the upcoming NEC session would give the party a chance to endorse a substantive leader.

“As you are all aware, the National Executive Committee is the apex body of the party. And so, whatever it is that we do now, including the endorsement of the National Chairman, must also receive the blessings of the NEC,” Fuanter said.

”And during the meeting, if they so desire that a new chairman is nominated, we’ll also accept such nomination and then wait for the convention where the final position of the party will be made as far as the substantive chairman is concerned.

“So that’s as much as I can tell you. And the date, the suggested date for the NEC meeting is the 24th of July, 2025. It’s going to be here in the premises of the APC.”

Fuanter also confirmed that a notice of the NEC meeting had been forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

On Saturday, APC governors described Ganduje’s resignation as a “strategic” decision aimed at improving the party’s structure and performance.

In a communiqué released after a two-day meeting in Benin City, the governors said the development should not be interpreted as internal crisis, but as part of broader reforms to reposition the APC.
