“We urge Party faithful to use this period of national mourning for quiet reflection and prayers for the repose of the soul of our departed leader.”

Buhari passed away at 4:30 p.m. in a London hospital after a long, undisclosed illness. He served Nigeria as a military head of state from 1984 to 1985 and later as an elected civilian president from 2015 to 2023.

President Bola Tinubu confirmed the news of Buhari’s death through his Special Adviser on Information, Bayo Onanuga, and former presidential spokesperson Garba Shehu.

In response, Tinubu directed Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to travel to the United Kingdom and accompany Buhari’s remains back to Nigeria.

He also ordered that all national flags be flown at half-mast in honour of the late former president.
