APC Spokesman Alleges Ministers Pay Billions For Appointments

An All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Campaign Council spokesperson, Alwan Hassan, has alleged that some ministers in Nigeria pay billions of naira to secure appointments into government.

Hassan made the claim on Thursday during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, where he discussed the alleged practice and its implications for public service.

He said the payment of money to obtain ministerial positions predated the APC administration and was not exclusive to the ruling party.

“A lot of ministers pay billions to be appointed, and the first thing they think of is how to recoup that money after being appointed. It is the truth about our country and not just APC ministers; it started before the APC,” Hassan said.

According to Hassan, the alleged practice contributes significantly to corruption in public office, as some appointees view their positions as investments from which they must recover their financial outlay.
