The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Joshua Ishaku of the All Progressives Congress winner of the Bwari Area Council chairmanship election held on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
The result was announced on Sunday, February 22, 2026, by Prof. Mohammed Nurudeen, the Returning Officer for the Bwari council contest, at the official collation centre.
He stated that Ishaku satisfied all statutory requirements and secured the highest number of valid votes cast.
According to the certified results, Ishaku emerged victorious after collation of votes from all wards in the election conducted across Bwari Area Council.

The returning officer confirmed that the process followed electoral guidelines and that the figures reflected the will of the electorate.
Officials reported that the exercise was largely peaceful, with security deployment at polling units to ensure order and compliance with electoral procedures.
Results were compiled and verified ward by ward before the formal declaration.
With the announcement, Ishaku is expected to assume office as chairman of Bwari Area Council for the statutory tenure, pending the issuance of a certificate of return in accordance with electoral regulations.
The outcome adds to the political results emerging from the area council elections, which continue to draw attention as a measure of grassroots political dynamics in the Federal Capital Territory.
