APC’s Joe Igbokwe to FG: ‘Don’t Raise Electricity Tariff Again, Let Nigerians Breathe’

A prominent leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has called on the Federal Government to immediately stop any plans to raise electricity tariffs further in Nigeria.

This plea comes shortly after the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, recently warned Nigerians to brace themselves for yet another increase in electricity costs.

Adelabu justified the impending hike by stating that the new tariffs will “reflect the true costs of electricity” and stressed that “the country’s economy can no longer afford to pay for electricity subsidies.”

But in a heartfelt message shared on his official Facebook page on the 20th of May, 2025, Igbokwe urged the government to “let us breathe now.”

The APC chieftain went on to caution the authorities, insisting that they should “not add even half a penny on electricity tariff right now in Nigeria.”

He highlighted the ongoing struggles, saying, “We are yet to come to terms with Band A and B and you are talking about increasing the tariff again. Let us breathe now.”
