Army Elevates 28 Top Officers in Major Promotion Ceremony

The Nigerian Army on Wednesday decorated 28 senior officers with new ranks, as the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), urged them to deepen their commitment to national service and uphold the highest standards of professionalism.

The decoration ceremony, held at the Army Headquarters Command Officers’ Mess 1 in Asokoro, Abuja, saw 28 Brigadier-Generals—one posthumously—elevated to the rank of Major-General. This was disclosed in a statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele.

In his remarks, Musa commended the officers for their dedication and years of sacrifice, stressing that their elevation was a testament to their integrity, courage and exceptional service to the nation.

“These officers are among the finest leaders in our Armed Forces,” he said, while calling for greater inter-service cooperation, enhanced intelligence sharing and unity among security agencies. He also acknowledged the crucial support of the officers’ families.

The minister conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s goodwill, assuring that the administration remains committed to strengthening the Armed Forces through improved resources, welfare and operational capabilities.

Earlier, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Waidi Shaibu, described the ceremony as a celebration of excellence, noting that the Army’s promotion process remains merit-based, transparent and fair. He reiterated ongoing efforts to boost morale through upgraded infrastructure, better healthcare and a more conducive working environment.
