Troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade have survived a fierce ambush by terrorists in the Wajiroko area of Azir Multe, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, the Nigerian Army has confirmed.
The soldiers, who were returning from a routine patrol around the fringes of the Sambisa Forest, came under heavy fire from insurgents on Thursday.
The patrol team was led by the Commander of the 25 Task Force Brigade, Brigadier General M. Uba, and included personnel of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
In a statement signed by Lt. Col. Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, on Saturday, the Army Headquarters dismissed reports circulating online alleging that the Brigade Commander was abducted during the attack.
According to the Army, the troops responded with “superior firepower,” successfully fighting their way out of the ambush and forcing the attackers to retreat in disarray.
However, four personnel — two soldiers and two CJTF operatives — were killed during the encounter.
The Army described them as “brave and heroic” individuals who paid the supreme price in service to the nation. It also extended condolences to the families and colleagues of the fallen.
The statement urged the public to disregard the claim, describing it as fake news.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu (NAM), praised the troops for their courage and resilience, noting that they continue to operate in one of the country’s most dangerous theatres of conflict.
“Their unflinching commitment, even in the face of grave danger, remains a powerful reminder of the daily sacrifices being made by our gallant service men and women to keep Nigeria safe,” he said.
The Army called for continued prayers and support for personnel on the frontlines as counterinsurgency operations persist across the region.
