ASUU Commends OOU VC As Varsity Ranks 2,338th Globally, Eighth In Nigeria

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Olabisi Onabanjo University branch, has praised the management of the institution following its improved position in the July 2026 Webometrics Global Ranking.

In a statement issued on Friday and signed by its Chairperson, Yinusa Ganiyu, ASUU-OOU commended the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayodeji Johnson Agboola, and members of his management team for the university’s performance.

The union said the latest ranking reflected OOU’s rising profile in areas including academic productivity, research, digital visibility and international recognition.

“This achievement is a significant indication of the growing visibility, academic productivity, research output, digital presence and global recognition of our great University.

It is also a testament to the commitment and efforts of the university administration, staff and students in repositioning OOU.

“ASUU-OOU acknowledges and appreciates the leadership of Prof. Ayodeji Johnson Agboola and his Management Team, as well as the contributions of every member of the University community to the progress recorded over the last four years.

“The achievement has demonstrated one important fact: members of our University community are capable of providing excellent leadership and taking OOU to greater heights.

The progress recorded in recent years is a reflection of what purposeful leadership, commitment, cooperation and a shared vision can achieve”

The union urged members of the university community to sustain their support for the administration, stressing that continued collaboration would be necessary to preserve and build on the gains recorded in recent years.

ASUU-OOU also cautioned against distractions or actions that could reverse the progress made by the institution, urging stakeholders to collectively ensure that the university does not return to the challenges of its past.

“The interest of Olabisi Onabanjo University must remain paramount at all times.ASUU-OOU believes that the responsibility for sustaining the current gains belongs to all of us.

Management, academic and non-academic staff, students, unions and all other stakeholders must continue to work together in the overall interest of the university”, ASUU said.

The July 2026 Webometrics ranking placed Olabisi Onabanjo University 2,338th among 32,000 universities globally. The institution also ranked 57th in Africa and eighth among universities in Nigeria.
