The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kaduna State University branch, has suspended the indefinite strike it embarked on just days ago following unresolved disputes with the university management.
The industrial action, which began on Tuesday, was called off on Sunday after the intervention of Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani.
In a statement, the Chairman of ASUU Kaduna State University branch, Dr. Peter Adamu, said the state government demonstrated its commitment to resolving the crisis by releasing funds to pay 60 percent of September 2017 withheld salaries and SIWES supervision allowance for five sessions.
According to Dr. Adamu, the Kaduna State Government has agreed on a timeline for addressing other pending issues, including the payment of five months’ withheld salaries (from May to September 2022), promotion arrears, earned academic allowances, pension remittances from 2009 to 2019, death benefits, and group life assurance.

The government has also shown commitment to implementing a wage award and granting autonomy to Kaduna State University.
ASUU commended Governor Sani for his swift response, describing it as a significant shift from previous administrations that allegedly victimized union members for participating in lawful strikes.
The suspension of the strike is expected to restore academic activities at the university while negotiations continue to ensure a permanent resolution to the issues raised by ASUU.
