The nation may be thrown to another blackout as the National Union of Electricity Employees is set to join Nigeria Labour Congress in solidarity protest with the striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
Only a few days ago, the nation experienced yet another collapse of the national grid, resulting in several hours of electricity blackouts across the country.
But the NUEE in a memo dated July 22, 2022 and issued by its General Secretary, Joe Ajaero, urged all electricity workers to participate actively in the NLC protest.
NLC had last week announced that its decision to embark on a joint demonstration with other affiliate unions to protest the lingering strike of university workers in the country. The university lecturers have been on strik since February 14, 2022.
According to the NUEE memo, “In line with the NLC’s directive and our position which was made known at the Central Working Committee (CWC) and National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Congress.
“All members of the union are enjoined to massively mobilize and actively participate in the NLC/ASUU solidarity protest against the continued closure of Nation’s Tertiary Institutions scheduled for 26/27 July, 2022.
“You are encouraged to work with the leadership of State Executive Council (SEC) of the Congress in your various states with a view of having successful outing.”
