Atiku formally declares presidential bid, says he’ll take Nigeria to ‘the Promised Land’

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday, March 23, officially declared his ambition to run for the 2023 presidency, promising among other things to take the country to the promise land if voted as president.

Atiku, who declared his presidential bid at the International Conference Centre in Abuja on Wednesday said, “I have never been this optimistic, and with your support and God’s grace, we will get to the promised land.”

Optimistic of clinching the seat of presidency, having failed on several other attempts, Atiku said, “This time around is different; our journey will not end at the poll; we will get to work and rescue Nigeria. I invite every Nigerian to join me in this mission to save our dear country.”

The Peoples Democatic Party chieftain from Adamawa State, who obviously is against the clamour by some Nigerians to zone the party’s presidential ticket to the South, promised to “operate a liberal economy that allows small businesses to grow through lower taxes for small businesses and low-income earners,” if he emerges as the president of the country in 2023.

“Nigeria is a land of possibility. There is no challenging background that will make any Nigerian give up. I am a living witness to what is possible in Nigeria”.

“Under my presidency, I want to focus on five key areas: Unity of Nigeria, Security, Economy, Education and devolving more resources and powers to the federating units,” Atiku added.

Atiku is believed to have started active politics in 1993. He has since then contested five times for the office of president of Nigeria – in 1993, 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019, in all of them, he was unsuccessful.
