Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has mourned the deadly bandit assault on Bagna and Erena communities in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, describing the incident as deeply distressing.
Atiku conveyed his reaction in a statement posted on his official X handle on Friday, following reports of significant casualties from the attack, which affected both civilians and security personnel.
“The tragic attacks on the Bagna and Erena communities, which claimed many lives including numerous security personnel, are profoundly heartbreaking.

I extend my sincere condolences to the bereaved families, especially those of the fallen heroes, and urge the government to take more decisive action to protect civilians, facilitate swift relief efforts, and bolster support for frontline forces.
May the departed rest in peace, and may enduring peace return to our land.”
Reports indicate that at least 61 bodies of victims, including security operatives and residents, have been recovered in the aftermath of the attack.
Residents of the affected communities said the bodies were discovered in nearby bushes several days after the incident occurred.
