A group of Nigeria’s most prominent opposition figures are currently gathered in Abuja to address the press, in what appears to be a significant show of cross-party unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, were among the leaders who convened at the Lagos/Osun Hall of Transcorp Hilton in the nation’s capital.
Also present at the meeting were former Senate President David Mark, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party Buba Galadima, and the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, Rauf Aregbesola.

Other notable figures at the gathering included ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, Senator Dino Melaye, former ADC National Chairman Ralph Nwosu, and former Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke.

The opposition leaders are expected to address journalists on contentious provisions of the recently signed Electoral Act 2026 Amendment and other pressing national issues.
The gathering brings together figures from multiple political parties, including the ADC, PDP, NNPP, and other opposition platforms, suggesting a coordinated effort to present a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The meeting comes amid heightened political tension following the signing of the Electoral Act amendment, which critics have said weakened transparency provisions around electronic transmission of results.
It also follows the alleged attack on Obi and other ADC leaders in Edo State earlier this week, and the ongoing confrontation between former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai and the federal government.
