Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring on Monday, November 24, that “the real opposition has begun” and vowing to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
Atiku made the announcement after receiving his ADC membership card at Jada 1 Ward in Adamawa State.
“Now I have picked up my membership card of the ADC. Now, the real opposition has begun. We will chase the APC out of government,” he said, urging Nigerians across the country to register with the party and join what he called “a new political front.”
Adamawa ADC Chairman, Shehu Yohanna, who co-conducted the registration, said Atiku’s entry signals the start of statewide registration drives across all local governments and wards.
He called on citizens, especially youths and women, to become active members.

The event attracted several prominent Adamawa political figures, including former Governor Bindow Jibrilla, Senators Aishatu Binani, Ahmed Barata, Aziz Nyako, and Ishaku Abbo, highlighting a major political realignment.
Atiku resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in July, describing the move as “heartbreaking” due to irreconcilable internal conflicts.
He had previously joined other opposition leaders in adopting the ADC as a coalition platform to challenge the APC in the 2027 elections.
The coalition also includes key figures such as former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, and ex-APC chairman John Oyegun.
Atiku’s emphatic statement and ADC membership mark a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s political landscape, signalling a united opposition ready to confront the ruling party and reshape the path to the 2027 elections.
