Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Saturday said Nigerian youths as well as elders have the right to contest 2023 residential and other elective positions.
He stated this while speaking with newsmen after a closed-door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
There have been campaigns for political parties not to field old politicians as their presidential candidates in 2023.
But Atiku, who was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) in 2019, is opposed to such campaigns as it would affect his presidential ambition.
He, therefore, advised the youths to seek elective positions, but cautioned them against seeking to deny the elders the constitutional rights to pursue their presidential ambition.
“Let the youth compete. It is a competition. It’s a democracy,” he said.
Expressing optimism of getting the PDP ticket again to run for the same office in 2023, Atiku said, “Have I ever failed to win the ticket?”
“I came to meet my boss. We will let you know when I’ll declare, we will give a formal announcement,” he added.
The former vice president after visiting Obasanjo, also met with the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo in his palace.
