Atiku Visits Amaechi After ADC Primary Win

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Thursday, May 28, 2026, visited former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi in Abuja, a day after emerging as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general election.

The visit is understood to be part of early reconciliation efforts within the party following a highly competitive primary that produced Atiku as the flag bearer.

Atiku won the ADC presidential ticket with 1,846,370 votes, ahead of Amaechi, who scored 504,117 votes, while Mohammed Hayatu-Deen polled 177,120 votes.

Amaechi had earlier rejected the outcome of the primary, alleging irregularities in the conduct of the exercise.

However, in his acceptance speech, Atiku pledged to reach out to his opponents to foster unity within the ADC and strengthen the party’s chances ahead of the 2027 polls.

Thursday’s meeting with Amaechi marks the first known face-to-face engagement between both men since the primary, as the party works to contain internal tensions and consolidate support going into the election season.
