Atiku’s Resignation Letter Was Leaked, Not Announced — Aide

Paul Ibe, Media Adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has said that the letter confirming his principal’s resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was not intended for public release.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News on Wednesday night, July 16, Ibe alleged that the letter was leaked by individuals who do not support Atiku’s political future.

He said the timing of the leak, which coincided with the nation’s mourning of former President Muhammadu Buhari, was politically motivated.

“We’re here because people who never wished His Excellency Atiku Abubakar well leaked a communication of his. Yes, it was leaked,” Ibe stated.

He also criticised the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, for weighing in on the matter instead of focusing on the nation’s aviation problems.

“It’s unfortunate that the Minister of Aviation, who rather should be concerned with serious issues of aviation matters and there are plenty of them, like runways and better infrastructure, jumped into this fray as though knowing what caused an accident even before investigation,” Ibe said.

According to Ibe, the leak was orchestrated by “rogue elements in the PDP working in cahoots with APC members.” He urged that the controversy not be allowed to distract from the national mood of mourning.

“Those who claim to know why he resigned, are they clairvoyants? I would rather say we speak on something else and not this particular issue, considering the fact that the nation is still in mourning and the memories of the late President, Muhammadu Buhari, who was just interred yesterday, are still fresh,” he said.

Atiku’s resignation became public following the release of a letter dated July 14, 2025, addressed to his ward chairman in Adamawa State.

In it, he cited “irreconcilable differences” and expressed dismay over the party’s direction, which he said had drifted far from its founding ideals.
