Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr Obadiah Mailafia, on Wednesday, described the attack on Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom as an attack on the entire state.
Mailafia said this during an interview on a Channels Television programme, Sunrise Daily, while speaking on insecurity in the country and the attack on Ortom.
“The attack on Ortom is an attempted attack on the entire people of Benue State,” Mailafia said.
Recall that Ortom was attacked last Saturday by suspected Fulani gunmen that on his farm. Already, a group, Fulani Nationality Movement has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The former CBN deputy governor, however, said failure to call evil by its name is itself evil, disagreeing with those calling criminal elements bandits.
He said, “Bandits are the touts around Agege, Oshodi who swindle people around and swindle you of your naira but when someone carry Ak47, has a rocket launcher and can kidnap 100 of school kids, you have a problem if you call them bandits.
“Also there are some people who give them these arms and money and it’s a big business, this capturing and paying ransom when you do this as a government you’re harming yourself very badly because you’re undermining the moral ontology of your own existence as a government and authority.”
