The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that Nigerians paid an average of ₦1,037.66 for a litre of petrol in June 2025, up from ₦750.17 in June 2024.
This represents a 38.32 per cent year-on-year increase, according to the NBS Petrol Price Watch released in Abuja on Thursday, July 31.
The report also showed a slight 0.96 per cent increase compared to the ₦1,027.76 average price recorded in May 2025.
State-by-state data indicated that Jigawa recorded the highest average petrol price at ₦1,107.52, followed by Ondo at ₦1,104.80 and Lagos at ₦1,100.29.
Yobe, Kogi, and Imo had the lowest prices at ₦950.60, ₦986.67, and ₦987.86 respectively.
Regional analysis showed the North-West paid the highest average petrol price in June at ₦1,062.84 per litre, while the North-East paid the lowest at ₦1,020.15.

Meanwhile, diesel prices have also risen significantly. The NBS Diesel Price Watch reported that Nigerians paid an average of ₦1,813.81 per litre in June 2025, compared to ₦1,462.98 in June 2024 — a 23.98 per cent increase.
Month-on-month, diesel prices rose by 3.16 per cent from ₦1,758.26 in May.
Benue recorded the highest diesel price at ₦2,541.46, followed by Adamawa at ₦2,355.32 and Plateau at ₦2,236.42.
The lowest diesel prices were in Ondo (₦1,365.71), Anambra (₦1,391.02), and Kogi (₦1,400.00).
Among the regions, the South-South Zone had the highest diesel price average at ₦1,963.86, while the South-West recorded the lowest at ₦1,618.74.
