Aviation Minister Restores Hybrid Payment At Airport Gates

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development has directed the reintroduction of a hybrid payment system at airport access gates, allowing both cash and electronic payments, following the suspension of the full cashless system due to traffic congestion.

The directive was announced on Tuesday after the minister met with officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and senior ministry staff to review the initial implementation of the cashless system.

According to the statement, the hybrid payment system will resume at all airport access gates from Friday, March 13, 2026. Motorists who already possess the FAAN Go Cashless Card may continue using it, while other electronic payment options, including POS terminals and approved digital channels, will also remain available.

The ministry stated that it plans to engage concessionaires to introduce a fully automated electronic system at all airport access points in the future, with the goal of eventually eliminating cash payments.

Members of the public and road users are encouraged to obtain and use the FAAN Go Cashless Card as the Authority continues to enhance the cashless payment system.

The move restores the previous access gate payment arrangement while the Ministry works toward a fully electronic system to improve efficiency and reduce congestion at airports.
