Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal, has blamed the Tinubu administration for allowing expired maize and rice into Nigeria, claiming the move has crippled local farming efforts.
Speaking on Trust TV, Lawal who described himself as a large-scale farmer said the government had failed to ease the hardships faced by ordinary Nigerians.
He pointed to rising production costs and falling prices as evidence.
“Last year, we could sell a bag of maize for N110,000, but fertilizer was N45,000. Today, fertilizer is N70,000, while maize has dropped to N65,000,” he said.
“They have imported expired maize and rice, flooding the market and destroying local farmers. Farming has become a lost venture.”

Lawal also said northern political leaders were working together to unseat the APC in the 2027 elections.
He criticised Tinubu’s style of governance, especially his appointments, accusing the president of isolating his own supporters.
According to him, “The Muslims that voted for him, he has alienated them, he has embarrassed them, and underdeveloped them.”
