Bandits have attacked the Zalau community of Toro Local Government Area, Bauchi State, in the early hours of Sunday, killing Alhaji Muhammad Bakoshi, a community volunteer and the JIBWIS Zalau Discipline Officer, and abducting his wife, who had given birth two weeks ago
According to a post by a security analyst, Bakastine, on his X handle on Sunday, the incident highlights the deteriorating security situation in the area.
“The abduction of Mrs. Bakoshi, coupled with the cold-blooded killing of Alhaji Bakoshi, signals the alarming reach of bandit groups beyond their traditional strongholds.
Communities that were previously considered relatively safe are now at risk, and urgent intervention is required,” he said.
Residents of Zalau expressed shock over the attack. Many said Alhaji Bakoshi had been actively involved in community peace-building initiatives, making the loss even more tragic.

“He was dedicated to the welfare of our community,” said one resident, requesting anonymity.
The incident reflects a growing pattern of bandit attacks spreading beyond their traditional areas, raising concerns among citizens and security observers about the safety of communities in affected regions.
Reports indicate that similar attacks are increasingly targeting families and individuals involved in community service, signaling a shift in bandit operations toward more direct and personal assaults.
Residents of Toro LGA are reportedly living in fear, with some avoiding travel at night, as communities grapple with the threat posed by expanding bandit activities.
