Bandits kill lecturer, abduct children in Katsina

In a tragic incident, Dr. Tiri Gyan David, the Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics, Extension, and Rural Development at a university in Katsina State, was killed by bandits early Tuesday morning.

The attack took place at about 1:30 am at his residence in Yarima Quarters, Low-Cost Estate, Dutsinma Local Government Area.

An eyewitness recounted the event to Channels Television via telephone, detailing that the bandits invaded the community armed with sophisticated weapons and fired shots sporadically to instill fear among the residents. During the assault, the attackers also abducted two of Dr. David’s children.

Katsina Police Command spokesman, Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the incident and mentioned that a detailed statement would be released soon.

Dutsinma is one of the ten security frontline local government areas in Katsina State that have been dealing with almost daily bandit attacks, despite continuous efforts by both the state government and security agencies to restore peace.
