Barau FC has refuted reports claiming that one of its players, Nana Abraham, was killed during their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter with Katsina United at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on Saturday.
The club’s president, Shawwal Barau I. Jibrin, described the viral reports as false and misleading, urging fans to disregard them.
According to an earlier statement from the club’s media director, Ahmad Gwale, Abraham was attacked by a pitch invader shortly after Barau FC equalised in the heated match.
The club had initially confirmed the incident on its official X handle.
Following the chaos, the NPFL sanctioned Katsina United with a ₦9 million fine for breaching league rules during the encounter.
However, in a fresh statement released on Monday, Barau FC clarified that no player was killed, though nine individuals—including a player, a technical consultant, a curator, and six fans—sustained injuries.

Abraham, who reportedly suffered a deep cut on his neck, was among those treated and later discharged from a hospital in Kano.
“We glorify Allah that all injured persons, including Abraham, have been discharged,” Jibrin said. “The reports of a player’s death and throat-slitting were false and intended to incite confusion.”
He expressed appreciation to the NPFL for its swift disciplinary action against Katsina United and appealed to supporters to remain calm, emphasizing that football should remain a unifying force.
