Bauchi Governor Approves 13 New Emirates, Over 100 District Heads

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has approved the Chieftaincy Appointment and Deposition Law, officially creating 13 new emirates and more than 111 district heads across the state.

The newly established emirates are Burra, Duguri, Dambam, Bununu, Lere, Darazo, Jama’a, Lame, Toro, Ari, Warji, Giade, and Gamawa.

In the same exercise, the governor signed into law the repeal of the Sayawa Chiefdom and approved the enactment of the Zaar Chiefdom Law, which will have its headquarters at Mhrim Namchi in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area.

Speaking at the Government House in Bauchi on Tuesday, the 21st of October, 2025, Mohammed cautioned against any form of political interference or obstruction in carrying out the new laws.

“This administration will not tolerate any attempt to undermine, obstruct, or politicize these reforms. Anyone found inciting division or disrupting public peace will face the full weight of the law,” he said.

He also signed the Local Government Pension Contributory Scheme, promising to settle outstanding pension and gratuity arrears owed to retired local government employees. According to him, the initiative will ensure transparency and accountability in pension management.

In addition, the governor assented to the 2025 Appropriation Supplementary Act to boost the execution of ongoing development projects across the state.

Mohammed directed the Attorney General and the Secretary to the State Government to ensure the laws are gazetted and circulated for immediate enforcement. He emphasized that these measures aim to strengthen governance, reinforce the traditional system, and foster peace and inclusion throughout Bauchi State.
