Bauchi Man Arrested for Allegedly Beating Wife to Death

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old businessman, Nuru Isah, for allegedly beating his second wife, Wasila Abdullahi, 24, to death following a dispute over Ramadan meal preparation.

The State’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday, revealing that the incident occurred on Saturday near Government Girls College, Fadamam Mada Area, Bauchi.

According to the statement, the disagreement erupted between the couple over the handling of food ingredients and fruits meant for breaking their Ramadan fast, escalating into violence.

“Preliminary investigation shows that the suspect used a cane to hit his wife, causing her to collapse and lose consciousness,” Wakil stated.

The victim was rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), where medical personnel pronounced her dead.

The police have recovered the cane allegedly used in the assault as evidence, while the suspect remains in custody for further investigation.

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Muhammad, assured that the case would be thoroughly investigated, stressing the command’s commitment to ensuring justice.

He also cautioned the public against domestic violence, describing it as a criminal act with severe consequences.

The deceased’s body has been deposited in the mortuary pending an autopsy.
