Bauchi Chief Judge Swears In 31 Sharia Court Judges

The Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, formally inaugurated 31 newly appointed judges for the state’s Sharia Court system, strengthening the judiciary responsible for Islamic law matters.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the High Court No. 1 premises in Bauchi, underscoring the state’s commitment to expanding access to justice under Sharia.

Speaking at the event, Justice Umar charged the judges to uphold integrity, professionalism, and impartiality in all proceedings.

She warned against exceeding their jurisdiction, stressing that adherence to the rule of law is paramount for maintaining public confidence in the judiciary.

With their appointment, the new judges are expected to manage growing caseloads, enhance efficiency in the Sharia Court system, and ensure that civil and criminal matters under Islamic law are addressed promptly and fairly.
