Bayelsa Plans Big for Diri’s 5th Anniversary

… 17 projects lined up for inauguration, 3 new legacy projects for flag-off

Ahead of the 5th anniversary of Governor Douye Diri, the Bayelsa State Government has unveiled the lined up of programme to commemorate the anniversary celebration.

The State Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai did the unveiling at a press briefing in Yenagoa on Saturday.

She was joined by her Works and Infrastructure counterpart, Mr. Moses Teibowei.

Mrs. Koku-Obiyai, said the programme will not be a display of much fun fare and elaborate flamboyance but will involve inauguration of projects, flag- off of new ones, and other activities.

She explained that the programme which will begin on the 10th of February to 3rd of March, will commence with a medical outreach at Ikarama community in Okordia, Yenagoa LGA, followed by inauguration of High Profile Road, Opposite Prosco.

Others are, commissioning of Hemodialysis Centre at the Bayelsa Medical University (BMU), General Outpatient hospital, Zipline drone services, and the 800 metres Concrete roads all at Bayelsa palm on the same day.

Mrs. Koku-Obiyai, noted that the State Thanksgiving is billed for Thursday, 13th February at the Ecumenical centre, Igbogene, while 14th is for the banquet night.

Other projects for inauguration are Onuebum-Otueke road, Opolo-Elebele road, Roads 1 and 2 in the New Yenagoa City, Legislator’s quarters, Commissioner’s quarters, Sagbama-Ekeremor road and Labour house.

Also, the ground-breaking of the iconic 9-storey civil servants secretariat complex and Ekeremor- Agge road and new stadium, Igbogene would be performed.

The Information Commissioner stated that the programme will continue with the empowerment of about 3500 beneficiaries of the Diri skills acquisition programme.

She enjoined Bayelsans and other stakeholders to be actively involved in all the activities.

On his part, Teibowei emphasized that some internal roads have been earmarked for inauguration during the anniversary celebration and that there is every reason to celebrate the achievements recorded so far by the government.
