Bayelsa Queens Cruise into WAFU B Semi-Finals with 3-0 Win Over ASKO

Bayelsa Queens have sealed their spot in the semi-finals of the CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU B qualifiers after a convincing 3-0 victory over Togo’s ASKO on Wednesday.

The reigning Nigerian champions, who had already impressed in their opening game, made it back-to-back wins in Group B to underline their dominance and secure early passage into the knockout stage.

Despite a cagey first half that ended goalless, the breakthrough came almost immediately after the restart. ASKO’s Oumou Bani inadvertently turned the ball into her own net under pressure in the 47th minute, gifting Bayelsa Queens the lead.

Barely six minutes later, Alaba Olabiyi doubled the advantage with a composed strike, capitalising on the Nigerians’ relentless forward play.

Skipper Shakirat Moshood then put the result beyond doubt in the 80th minute, continuing her fine scoring form in the qualifiers.

Midfield dynamo Vera Samuel, whose tireless display dictated the tempo of the game, was deservedly named Player of the Match.

With six points from two matches and yet to concede a goal, the “Prosperity Girls” have established themselves as one of the tournament favourites.

Their depth and new signings, including Emem Essien, Kafayat Mafisere, Opadeji Semilore, and Sofiat Bankole, have already begun to pay dividends, as predicted by club chairman Robin Apreala before the campaign kicked off.

The WAFU B qualifiers serve as the gateway to the CAF Women’s Champions League finals later this year, with only the best clubs from the region progressing.

Having started strong, Bayelsa Queens will now set their sights on going all the way.
