Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, on Wednesday, appointed Mr Igbinoghodua Edebiri as the new chief priest of Holy Aruosa Cathedral, Benin.
Edebiri’s approval by the monarch as the new Ohen-Osa of the Benin national church followed the recommendation of the elders’ council of the church.
Secretary of the Benin Traditional Council, Frank Irabor, disclosed this in a press statement in Benin City, the Edo State capital, on Wednesday.
The statement directed the new chief priest to immediately open the Benin foremost church, the Aruosa Cathedral, which had been under lock and key for a while.
Recall that the chief priest of the Holy Aruosa Cathedral, Harrison Akao, was on February 4, 2021, relieved of his position for allegedly violating the age-long tradition of the church.
