The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Aondona Dajoh, has stepped down from his position.
His resignation was contained in a letter he personally signed and dated Sunday, August 24, 2025.
The letter, titled Resignation As The Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, read in part, “I write to resign my position as the Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, effective today, August 24, 2025.
“This is done in good faith and in the best interest of the state. I want to appreciate my dear colleagues for the opportunity they gave me to be the first among equals.
“I pledge to remain committed to my duties as a legislator and representative of Gboko West State Constituency.”
His resignation followed a tense week in the Assembly marked by suspensions, petitions, and controversies.

Last Friday, four lawmakers were suspended for six months over an alleged plot to impeach Dajoh.
Those affected included Alfred Berger of Makurdi North, Terna Shimawua of Kian, Cyril Ekong of Obi, and James Umoru of Apa constituency.
The motion for their suspension was moved by Majority Leader Saater Tiseer, who accused the lawmakers of attempting to destabilise the Assembly with what he described as a needless crisis.
Following the motion, Dajoh directed the Sergeant at Arms to escort them out of the chambers.
Berger, who previously served as the Assembly’s spokesperson, was replaced with Audu Elias.
Meanwhile, Governor Hyacinth Alia distanced himself from the impeachment controversy.
His Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, issued a statement clarifying that, “The governor, Hyacinth Alia, is not aware of and has no involvement whatsoever in any purported attempt to remove the speaker or in any activities currently taking place in the Benue State House of Assembly”.
