The Labour Party (LP) has strongly condemned the recent mass killings in Benue State, urging immediate deployment of security forces to protect vulnerable communities in Nigeria’s North Central region.
In a statement issued on Monday, June 16, the party’s acting National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, described the attacks as “a fresh wave of senseless killings” and called for a thorough investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators, no matter their background or status.
“These victims were not just statistics. They were human beings, innocent lives violently cut short.
“Children who deserved protection were butchered. Mothers who should be nurturing families were buried in mass graves. Fathers defending their homes were mercilessly slain,” Usman said.
She expressed deep concern over the scale of the violence, lamenting the killings of more than 100 people, including women, children, security personnel, and displaced persons, as well as the destruction of homes and livelihoods.
“The bloodshed in Benue should shake every conscience in this country.

“This is not just a local tragedy, it is a national shame. The helplessness of the displaced and the boldness of the attackers reveal a dangerous vacuum in leadership and accountability,” she said.
Beyond military action, the Labour Party called for a coordinated humanitarian response, including food, shelter, medical services, and trauma support for survivors.
Usman also urged Nigerians to go beyond issuing condemnations and demand concrete measures, warning that inaction only emboldens those behind the violence.
“To the grieving families, I mourn with you as a mother. To the children now orphaned, the women widowed, and the shattered communities, you are not alone. Your pain echoes across this nation. Your cry for justice will not go unheard,” she said.
She further vowed that the LP would continue pushing for policies that safeguard the lives and dignity of all Nigerians, especially in rural and conflict-prone areas.
“Nigeria cannot continue like this. Enough is enough,” Usman added.
